JHB Technical Talk – Jannie Potgieter

Dear SAIRAC members

You are invited to our Johannesburg Centre 5th Technical Talk on 22 August 2024. This technical talk will be presented by Mr. Jannie Potgieter.  Explore the impact of altitude on the cooling performance.

Most people will know him from the psychrometric courses he has been presenting for SAIRAC for several years now. He studied mechanical engineering at the North West University and holds both B.Eng and M.Eng degrees.

Jannie currently works at Thermologika as a consulting engineer where he specialises in the analysis, design and development of thermal fluid systems.

SYNOPSIS:

This technical talk will explore the impact of altitude on the cooling performance of HVAC systems, focusing on how changes in air density at different altitudes affect component performance as well as overall system efficiency. This is of particular interest for us in Gauteng, since almost all standard equipment ratings are at sea level altitude and Johannesburg is 1700 meters above sea level. The aim of the talk is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of how fan and coil performance, as well as the complete HVAC system, is impacted by changes in altitude. Practical guidelines on how to estimate the performance at altitude will also be discussed.

This talk will now be an online Zoom meeting.

When: 22 August 2024 18:30.
